About This Blog
Michelle Fletcher spent more than a decade in corporate IT, working as a data analyst and managing data systems before life redirected her. Health had always been a passion. She played soccer through high school and college, turned working out into her stress outlet, and started helping people learn the gym machines without ever holding a certification. When she lost her corporate job in 2009, she had two small children and a choice to make. A chance conversation in a gym parking lot pointed her toward plant-based nutrition, and within two months, her 14-month-old son's health shifted. Her insulin-dependent father's health shifted too. That single interaction opened a nine-year run inside network marketing, where she helped thousands of people rethink their nutrition.
In this episode of Fountain of Vitality, host LaMont Leavitt sits down with Michelle Fletcher, founder and CEO of the Holistic Business Network, to talk about the pandemic that reshaped her mission, the doctors leaving traditional medicine for functional practice, and why so many gifted wellness practitioners stay the best kept secret in their field.
The Parking Lot Conversation
Michelle's second chapter started with a stranger. Their kids were playing together at the gym, and the woman mentioned a plant nutrition supplement Michelle already recognized from her son's holistic pediatrician's office. The conversation pulled her down what she calls the rabbit hole of health. Acupuncture, chiropractic care, natural toothpaste, and every modality she could learn.
What surprised her most was watching her own family transform. Her son, who struggled to sleep because he could not breathe properly at night, changed within weeks. Her diabetic father reduced his insulin dependence. Over nine years she helped thousands of people rethink their nutrition and built a team that replicated the work across the country.
The Pandemic Flipped Her Mission
When 2020 hit, Michelle did something she rarely did. She turned on the news. What she heard, and what she did not hear, changed everything. Nothing about sunlight. Nothing about foundational nutrition. Nothing about the many ways the body can be supported naturally.
That silence pushed her to build something bigger than one product line. She started spotlighting other practitioners and wellness businesses. In September 2021, she hosted her first Holistic Health and Wellness Networking Event, pulling together the people she wanted her own community to know about.
Many Doors, Not One
Michelle is clear about her philosophy. What she shares is one door. It is not the only door. She wants people walking into whichever room matches their body and their season of life. A nutrition product. A functional medicine doctor. An acupuncturist. A physical therapist who works with the nervous system.
That last example is one of her favorites. A physical therapist had left her traditional clinic after a difficult divorce taught her how to regulate her own nervous system. She did not know what to call herself. Michelle listened to her describe the work and said, you are a holistic physical therapist. The name stuck. Four years later, that practitioner hosts a podcast, speaks on major stages, and was featured at South Florida Wellness Week.
Doctors Switching Lanes
A meaningful share of the Holistic Business Network is made up of physicians who used to practice traditional internal medicine. Michelle says several of them hit personal health walls the conventional system could not solve. They studied functional and integrative medicine, healed themselves, and now offer that same work to their patients.
Michelle positions herself as a resource. Fifteen years inside the wellness world gives her a map these doctors do not yet have. They are intelligent and humble, learning a new language. She helps them navigate faster than they could alone.
Life Hacks Over Willpower
When people ask how to stay consistent, Michelle leads with empathy. Slip-ups are part of being human. What matters is what you do next. She recommends meal prep that removes the decision point when blood sugar crashes and your brain reaches for the nearest carb.
LaMont built on the idea. Pre-cut vegetables, a favorite healthy dip, and a ready-to-grab snack at eye level can rescue a moment that would otherwise send you into the pantry. Michelle calls these life hacks. The goal is simple. Make the healthy choice the quick and easy one.
Grounding and Other Forgotten Basics
Some of what works best is ancient. Sunlight. Bare feet in the grass. Movement outdoors. Michelle points out how far removed most people are from the habits that kept earlier generations well. Technology pushed these practices to the edges of daily life, and now many people need permission to reintroduce them.
LaMont noted the obvious reason these habits rarely get airtime. Large companies cannot monetize a walk in the grass. Michelle agreed. The system makes more money when people stay unwell, which is why she pushes back on sick care and pushes people toward their own ownership of their health.
The Best Kept Secret Problem
Michelle has met hundreds of practitioners who are genuinely skilled and almost entirely invisible. They are technologists in their trade. Brilliant at the work, uncomfortable in the spotlight. She can spot them within minutes.
She has also met the opposite. Confident voices with nothing underneath. Her job is to lift up the first group and help them find the language, the platforms, and the partnerships that match the depth of their work.
Where the Network Is Now
The Holistic Business Network runs active chapters in South Florida, Orlando, Atlanta, the DC and Maryland region, and South Carolina. Michelle is looking for chapter leads ready to rebuild in California and Texas, and she is open to new regions. Her flagship event, the Holistic Business Networking Experience, blends speed networking with a short educational segment and real-time matchmaking.
Members have landed clients, business partnerships, magazine features, and one member was featured on an Amazon documentary. Michelle keeps emphasizing the same thing. It only takes one connection to change a direction.
Key Takeaways
One door is never the only door, and trustworthy practitioners point you toward options outside their own lane
The system profits when people stay unwell, which is why sunlight and real food rarely make the news
Your feet can recharge your body the way a phone charges on a pad
Discipline fails at low blood sugar, so pre-cut snacks protect the decision before willpower is needed
Start with the foundation before chasing symptoms
Empathy beats guilt when you slip because one bad day does not erase six months of direction
Skill without visibility stays invisible, even among the best practitioners
Physicians often enter functional medicine only after their own bodies force them into it
